Step into the turbulent world of 1215, where rebellion simmers, alliances fracture, and the future of the realm hangs in the balance. Magna Carta: Robin & John is an immersive Nordic-style LARP that intertwines myth, legend, romance, and history, centered on the political upheaval that pushed England to the brink of transformation.
Players embody roles drawn from historical figures and legendary archetypes: Barons pressing their demands, church leaders weighing excommunication, outlaws stirring unrest, and a king fighting to maintain his crown. As factions negotiate, betray, and unite, participants collaboratively decide whether peace, revolt, or an unsteady compromise, perhaps even the signing of the Magna Carta, will shape the world they inhabit.
Designed for emotional depth, collective creativity, and character-driven intrigue, this LARP blends medieval aesthetics with modern LARPing principles: consent-based play, transparent mechanics, standard safety protocols, and an emphasis on narrative exploration and collaborative storytelling over “winning”. Although most of the events in our LARP really happened, we have altered timelines and characters to create more interesting gameplay. This is not a perfectly historically accurate LARP!
A Nordic-Style LARP by Cascadia Rising Events & Costumers of Color
This larp is set in 1215 England. You may experience one or many of different themes that we have written into the game:
1. Human Connection & Emotion
2. Personal Growth & Conflict
3. Societal & Moral Issues
4. Philosophical & Existential
You may react strongly and deeply to these themes, or they may not affect you at all. Much of that depends on you and how you choose to embody your character. None of the characters will experience all of these themes - you may only be exposed to a couple of them during your weekend.
We have included several ways to manage your experience. On Friday we will introduce you to the larp through a series of brief workshops, one of which will provide a system of safety protocols in case things get too emotional. During the game, you will have access to a quiet space away from the action, where you can separate yourself from your character for a bit, and have a snack. After the larp, on Sunday, we will host a "debrief" workshop to help you emerge from your character and move back into 2026. We want this larp to be moving and meaningful, but we also want you to feel safe and supported.
After you purchase your ticket, you will receive a series of emails with questionnaires: one for practical details like lodging and food requirements, one for player flagging and safety, and one for your character preferences - this will help us to determine which of the above themes you'd like to explore. We'll also include more practical information, like transportation options and costuming suggestions, along with an invite to our Discord server so that you can connect with other players and keep in touch with us.
After we crunch the numbers, you will receive your roommate assignments and have a chance to respond if you'd like to change. You'll also receive a preliminary list of 3 characters, depending on your character survey answers. We'll ask you to send back your first, second, and third choices for characters. We'll make every attempt to match people with the characters that they want.
You will receive your character no later than April 16, 2026. Each character sheet will come with a full description of their situation, goals that they may have for the game, and specific relationships with other characters, along with costuming suggestions particular to the character. Depending on availability, you will have a chance to change your character for a limited time.
